From the Classroom to the Circuit: A weekend with the FIA at Circuit Ricardo Tormo

When I enrolled in the Master’s in International Sports Management at ESBS Valencia, I envisioned myself one day waking up in my student room, putting on my accreditation pass, and heading to the racetrack, not as a spectator but as part of a unique learning experience. That vision became reality during the weekend of June 13–14, 2026, when four fellow students and I had the incredible opportunity to spend two days at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia alongside the FIA. Through the FIA CareerShift and FIA Girls on Track initiatives, we had the opportunity to experience the world of motorsport, and we got a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on what it takes to deliver an international racing event.
Throughout the weekend, we had the privilege of speaking with a wide range of professionals who shared their experiences and insights into the industry. From FIA representatives, the Race Director in the Race Control Room, and the Circuit’s Press Officer to the Stewards and Technical Scrutineers responsible for ensuring compliance with sporting and technical regulations, each conversation revealed a different side of motorsport operations. Equally meaningful was the opportunity to meet four female racing drivers, who shared their personal journeys, how their passion for motorsport began, and the challenges and opportunities they have encountered as young women building a career in racing. Among all these inspiring professionals, a special thank you goes to Susanna Coletta, Emma Garofalo, and Millie Beaton, who supported and guided us throughout the weekend.
An experience like no other
Alongside these valuable conversations, we experienced the excitement of a real race weekend while the circuit hosted VOLRACE Summer and the FIA TCR World Tour. Exploring the paddock, stepping onto the starting grid moments before the race, and watching the action from the Media Room allowed us to witness firsthand the passion, precision, and teamwork that drive every aspect of the sport.
Experiences like this go far beyond the classroom: they bring the industry to life and transform career ambitions into tangible goals. This weekend did not just bring us closer to the industry; it allowed us to see ourselves as part of its future.
